I've had it with the ruddy snorkel. All it does it get thumped by trees and stuff. I'm never going deep enough to get a wet bum so I plan to remove it.

As it was fitted to the 90 when I bought it I have no instructions and I'm not sure what to expect when removing it or what kind of hole I'll be left with.

Can anyone advise please?

If its the same as the hole you have to cut on the disco for a safari you'll need a new wing as its not small.
Also depending on the way its attached to the wing (again if same as the disco) thye easiest way to take it off is to remove wheel, remove plastic wheel arch liner and then you can access the bolts - I would say for the hassle leave it in place

You don't have to cut a big hole when fitting, on a defender its already there. You will need to get hold of a grille to put in the big hole in the wing but you will be left with three small bolt holes. As for inside the wing there is a moulded pipe that you will need that connects to the flexy pipe from the air box. You might be best putting an ad in the wanted section as there must be loads of people who have taken these parts off when they fitted their safari snorkels. :)

Hi Mike

You'll have no problem selling the safari snorkel. If you still want a snorkel go for a southdown one. You have not of the tree hitting issues.

It wont be a straight forward fit presuming your cage is of the usual design. They can be made to fit, somebody makes a plate to move the mount slighly but i don't know who it is, also it makes them look a bit odd.

The air-intake assy & pipe which fixes to the wing is very cheap from a dealer so I wouldn't bother looking for a S/H set.

Don't know how much excatly but I have seen a break down of costs (it was from when I had a 300TDi fitted to my 90) and nothing was more than a few Ã‚Â£.
Ring someone like DLS or Paddocks and ask them, they will give you the part No's at the same time.

Difficult to see but I get the idea.
I have a RRC mantec one that I was gonna mod and fit upside down but I quite like the look of the safari ones.
I never used to but am coming round to the idea.
What's it worth ??

u didnt mention what engine td5/tdi300 or tdi200

if its a td5 would be interested in buying it dependant on cost

200 TDI so you're not interested!

I think it'll come off once I source the bits to tidy up.

I'm thinking what I might do is try and make something that would help when going a little deeper. I don't want a wet bum but I don't mind a bit of depth.

I sold the vehicle and i thought it would be easier to sell without all the suggestions of off road abuse bolted to it. A safari snorkle wouldn't have lasted 5 minutes on my current 90 though so i modified rebel 4x4 snorkles so that nothing sticks out past the roll cage :lol:
