Buying a zook! help needed!
« on: August 27, 2006, 00:18:28 »
Hi all. I need some help with buying a first car (4x4). ive got just over a year till i can take my test so im starting to look at my options.
I can (1) Use my dads 90 (2) Get a zook. the problem with number 1 is the cost of insurance so it looks like im going down the zook route.
The only thing is i havnt got a clue about which model is best, which engine is best, what to look out for when buying and what i should be paying for one etc.
It would be used to drive to school daily and get me into town etc but also take me to pay and play days and hopefully put up a good fight against the other 4x4s :P
Any info you have would really help me out

hi mate i would go for a sj 413 a samurai would be best because its got wider axels and dont fall over quite so easy. you could go the sj 410 route if you want it would be cheaper on insurense but at only a 1000 cc any journey you take would be even slower. hope have been some help happy motoring .muddytubbie

p s the best place to look for one is probaly e bay the only problem there it could be anywhere in the country and you buy it before you get a good look at it .  expect to pay £4-500 pounds for anything half decent more if its got any mods . check for rust in all the usual places  around spring hangers , inner wings , floor etc . ta for now . muddytubbie   have a look at our web site www.norfolkrhinos.co.uk

Not sure you'll find a Vit is easier on insurance either.

Me on a Def 90 : £230/Yr Vit for some reason works out £340/Yr

2.5T Audi Quattro is cheaper to insure for some reason :S
I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.

Companies take personal injury into consideration..... thus a Defender would cause more damage.... and I would say (incorrectly) that a Vitara is more nickable than a Defender! (for those scroats that don't know)

Sorry for the stupid question but what is the difference between a sj413 and a sj410? engine size?
Oh yeah and do the chassis rust like on landys or is it the body panels that go on zooks?
thanks for any help :P

410/413

a 410 is 1000cc a 413 is 1300 cc the same as a samurai . the chassis does rot on a sj  no not as bad as a landi  but the body does fall apart very easy .  if you put big tyres on a 413 its best to put a 410 transfer box in to compensate the gearing otherwise you end up doing about 40 flat out. in big tyres i mean 31 in or bigger
