Miniman:
SJ for first timers is a cheep good little toy to start with. Easy to repair and cheeper on insurance. Most insurance companys wont touch a young driver in a 4x4 over 2000cc, if they do its usualy very expensive. Not just that there is loads ya can do to a SJ to make it more fun.....

If Daddy is paying....

Which he is...

I rather suspect an S.J. will be on the cards....

Range Rover Blues:
I think it's been said already, but the insurance will probably have the deciding vote.

Pound for pound you get a lot of car with an old Rangie.  Despite being lighter, better equiped and have a lower C of G than the Disco they don't seem as popular, the Disco having become very popular as the 'poor man's Defender'.

Series Landies are a hoot and beeing Meccano, very easy to keep running, but I suspect at your age it will be a Suzuki.  Small engine, light weight, economical if a little rusty.

Still, better than a Coarser with a dustbin stuck under the back and plastic skirts that make it look like a Dyson
