strange alarm problem

(1/3) > >>

beast5680:
I have a disco commercial as a work van at the minute and while coming back from a job today the hazard lights started flashing  for no reason, so i pull over and stop switch everything off and they,re still flashing  :?
removing the key i get out and attempt to lock the car, nothing on the fob and using the key it only locks the drivers door so the central locking has stopped working  :?
I get back in and restart the engine and everything returns to normal ????

any ideas anyone on what the hell is going on ?

TimM:
We've (a few of us locals) had the hazards come on while laning if we give it a good jolt - did you hit a pothole?

We do the same, turn it off, leave it a minute and restart it.

We suspect it is the car reacting to the 'accident' and warning other road users (hazards) and adopting some sort of 'get you home' attitude.

that used to happen on mine when using the H12 hydraulic winch. it was something to do with an earth fault between the remote leads and the vehicle electrics.

added more earth straps, etc, and it ain't happened since.

There was talk of this being a throwback from the Camel Trophy; in the old days when the Camel was rough and tough if a Disco dropped off the edge of a cliff something would switch the hazards on to tell the rest of the team it was in trouble.

Sound a bit 'urban myth' to me.

Then there is also the suggestion that there might be a problem with the alarm ECU, as replacing it has been know to solve the problem.
