Disco gear problems

I had the nasty experience of coming off a motorway run and being unable to select a gear without brute force. This went on for a couple of days and then it just became a bit of a shove to get it into gear. I ought to do something about it but the gearbox splines are shot so it needs a new box sometime but I can't afford it now. So, after 6 months I'm still making slow cchanges and it's still going into gear.

Maybe you should wait a short while before doing anything radical?

may be worth looking on the difflock site they do that fully synth gear oil, some people swear by it . often wondered about doing mine similar fault but as you say never gets any worse, alan.....

I fitted the difflock oils 2 or 3 thousand miles before this happened but I am certain that's unrelated.

I'm not at all convinced they make any difference at all except to your bank balance.

Subjectively after filling the transfer box the transmission felt smoother but I don't think it helped the gearbox at all.
