Achieving a good finish on a second hand ARB Winch Bumper

(1/3) > >>

Disco Bristol:
Hi just bought a second hand ARB bumper.

It’s a little rusty, only surface rust though. In some areas there is slight pitting.

How can I achieve the best finish?

I tried pressure washing, then wire brushing, then sanding by hand. Not surprisingly it is still pitted. I have enquired about getting it sand blasted locally, but I have no idea how much it will cost.

I have applied one coat of Hammerite but I’m not to sure if I want a better finish.

What do you recommend I try?

Colin 009:
I recommend you give it to me,  I was watching that on ebag,

if it was mine i would get it blasted, galved then paint it.

thats what i will be doing with mine when the plastic coating starts coming off.

winchman:
Shot or bead blast it, fill the pits with Braze or lead then powder coat it, it will look like new.
The pits are the difficult bit, you could just leave them and see how it looks once its coated.
