'On Roaders' Welcome or Not?!?!?!?

Just out of interest....Am I correct in thinking that this forum is meant to be for 'Off Roaders' and was wondering what other people's thoughts were on 'On Roaders' being allowed to chat here.

I realise that everyone has to start somewhere and there may well be people in the process of buying a 4x4 with the intention of Off Roading or may already own a 4x4 and just not have started Off Roading yet, but seriously want to give it a go and those people are more than welcome on here in my mind?!?!?!

It's the ones that have no intention of Off Roading that have NO place on an OFF ROAD FORUM?!?!?!

But.......what's everyone else's opinion (OFF ROADERS ONLY PLEASE)??? :?:

My opinion is that this is a all makes 4x4 forum and as such all types of owners are eligible to join in.

although its called mud club which refers to off roading if someone shows an interest in 4x4's in general then surely they should be allowed to post everyones opinion is valid in an open forum at the end of the day.

it could just be they've purchased a brand new D3 and dont fancy scratching it or maybe SWMBO just wont let them get it mucky so my vote is yes.

It can't be an off road only forum ,just a forum for anyone with an interest in 4x4's .Some members don't have a 4x4 just a car but like to read about 4x4's, some members are far too young to drive but can still sign up.

It's a forum for everyone who likes to read or have an opinion.

Mud-Club is an all makes, all models forum, you can join if your proud of your Panda 4x4  

we have hardened off-roaders, greenlaners, and enthusiasts with pristine motors.

All are welcome here, with no discrimination  [-X

If you have a soft-roader, or a road only 4x4 then your advice is just as welcome, I'd rather be told how to "change my rattly bit" by someone with a shiny motor who's changed 10 of them, than an off-roader with a raised mud-terrained beast who's never done it  8)

When i first bought my 4x4 i didn't plan on taking it off road, I only wanted a vehicle that would tow my trailer out of muddy fields, I have since been green laning with it and now also have another 4x4 for trials  :D  So I say yes and tempt the on-roaders over to the dark side  :twisted:

I spend a fair fair hunk o' time green laning in my Landy - which is certainly 'on road'.  

Now, wether I'm welcome or not is an entirely different question!  :lol:

ON ROAD=TARMAC NOT Greenlanes

But green lanes have to be driven the same as TARMAC and are restricted by the same laws as roads must wear seat belts etc and so they are technically not off road  :lol:

Of course everyone is welcome... if you like 4x4's then join in (if you don't like them then still join in, but expect a very hard time!!!! :D )

If we start making it off-roaders only where will anyone start?  The best bit about 4x4's is the friendliness and banter in clubs such as mud-club.

As previously mentioned, if a member joins who has worked in a Land Rover (or Suzuki, Jeep or any other) garage for years and years but never off-roaded, then they could be a very valuable member to have!!

I off-road, but am relatively new to it, so have little advice to give... but eager to learn from all (both mechanics/technical and off-road techniques).

Um....a message from member number 1. Some of you know me, some do not. I own 3 4x4's. Piglet, Bagheera and Elvira. All of them have *been* offroad, but only ONE is generally used offroad.

This forum was, is and will continue to be a 4x4 biased FUN,FRIENDLY and FREE place ;-)

If people start getting uppity about who can, who can't and who should post - then sorry - they will be the ones that get a sharp word from me.

Oh....forgot - sig has changed - for those that don't know :

So er.....I cover most bases. Greenlaning is ON-ROAD (but off-tarmac). People really must learn this differentiation ;-) I will happliy greenlane ALL of my fleet - and my old 4.4 Vogue put many a mile under it's belt on England, France and Belgiums unsealed roads - as will Bagheera....

What about those of us who are retired off roaders?

I would just like to say that I retired from Safari Comps some 10 years ago, and this site has rekindled my interest in the off road scene and allowed me to become more up to date with the current legislation etc.

I even got some mud tyres for my Nissan pick up today :oops:

I feel it should be open to all........It can be a good thing you know.

You will find the sort of people you speak of have no interest in this sort of forum. If they pick up technical advice here, so be it - why not - that is one of the reasons the club came into being.

I, for one, was sick of the "secret society" behaviour in clubs I had joined (and paid to join!) - this, the forum you are chatting in now, was a direct result.

Here is what this club is about....

All about Mud-Club

The first question people ask is 'what is the mud club ?', well, the second question. The first question is usually, 'you came here in that?' .. but enough of our own vehicular shortcomings

In answer to the former of these questions, this is the mud-club. Nothing more, and indeed nothing less than a collective of individuals with an interest in off road driving, off road vehicles, socialising and being friendly. Unlike many other clubs it has no committee, no rules, no regulations. The goal of the club is for all members to take as active a role as they wish to take.

The club was founded by a small group of individuals who simply wished to return to the 'fun' nature of a club. Thus, the onus of the mud-club since its very inception is to live up to it's motto. 'Fun, Friendly and Free'. To deal with each of these in turn....

Fun:
The mud-club is specifically tailored to suit your needs, with no pre-defined rules regarding the nature of events, competition, conversation or little else. If you wish to join an event feel free to turn up, if you can't find an event that you want to enter, feel free to create your own. Club members will provide whatever support they can, advice, assistance and a banner for you to march under. The mud-club is a community, if you wish to take an active part then take one, if you prefer to lurk around and look at the pretty pictures then do that, it is entirely up to you. It is not the clubs job, duty, or place to tell you how you should enjoy yourself. That is left to your significant other, or bank manager as appropriate.

Friendly:
Mud-Club members have varying degrees of talent when it comes to driving off road. However to them the challenge and the pleasure that comes from challenging themselves, chatting to friends, and taking the mickey out of each other. The club is not overly competitive, nor is it overly serious. Light hearted humour (and the odd toilet joke) is by far and away the order of the day.

Free:
The mud-club does not, and will not charge for membership, nor will we charge for entry onto our message boards, access to our pictures, parts catalogues, etc. So how does the club expect to pay for all this? It's that community thing again. The mud-club makes a few pence (honestly it is as low as that at times) from stickers, t-shirts etc. and this money is channeled back into covering costs at events, and the running costs of the club. Everything else is donated by members. Events are organised in a similar way. We all give at times, and take at others.

The Mud-Club is like an off road co-op, but with less milk.

So there you have it, a community run by its members, for its members.

I post here and I own at this point 2 hybrids and an S3 air portable lwt, NON of which are running or road legal I also own a new Zafira which obviously will never be taken off-road (not through my choice either).

My point is nobody on this site knows I actually owns these vehicles and I could say I owned a S1 or a 101 or whatever does it really matter whether people own a 4x4 and go off-road or not.

I have been ill for a year and not been off-road does that mean that my opinion is less valid because of my lack of driving for a year?  

We all need to start somewhere and if nothing else people without a 4x4 can read about the great things we do such as lane clearance and such and of course getting covered in mud.

People might even start to hear that we are not all to be stereotyped as we so often are in the press and hey who knows someone might even go out and buy a 4x4 just because they talked about them here.

It takes all sorts to create an online community I should know I own a number of adult websites and it has taken years to build some of them up.

We judge people to often in life why not leave things be and let everyone add their say including the bobble hat nice people that troll these types of boards.

I used to post on the Ramblers association Rights of Way forum ( I like walking ROWs just as much as I like driving them)

It was a lively forum with interesting viewpoints on all aspects of ROWs from 4x4s to cows in fields to removing obstructions etc.
Sadly the admin there closed that forum after too many posters were disagreeing with the RAs policies. I have never seen so many locked threads. :?  
Now they only have dull forums on destination advice and walking gear etc.

I hope Mud club never turn anyone away for holding an unpopular viewpoint.

As far as I'm concerned, I like Mud-Club just the way it is, for anyone who has an interest, so it seems to me that if anyone wants to complain or doesn't like it the way it is they can always go elsewhere, we won't mind a bit.

Ive only been off road x4 times this year (due to work commitments), but if it wasn't for stumbling onto Mud-Club whilst searching for parts, i'd never have gone off road.
And I wouldn't have spent the time and cash on turning a heap of a 90 into a bit of a mean-beast

Steady... I didn't see any posts in my reading that deserved a shouted response.

Don't think there is realy a debate to be had here.. popular opinion seems to suggest (as well as the stated purpose from one of the founders) that it really is no issues.
