Recovery points and tank guard
« on: August 28, 2004, 10:22:48 »
Hi,

I have recently fitted a Marshland Offroad Modular recovery point on the rear of my discovery, it wraps around the rear cross member and is probably the most secure recovery point i have seen fitted.
My question is - Has anyone else got one of these fitted? Can i fit a Southdowns Fuel tank guard with the Marshland rec. point on?

My personal hate is 4x4s with NO recovery points   it makes for 'interesting' recoveries!! so i would like to keep the Marshland kit. I know i can have a recovery ring on the fuel tank but i would like as many rear points as possible.

Does anyone have any alternatives?

Thanks very much,

show us a pic of this kit on yours and it will explain if the southdown will fit too

although the southdown comes with its own recovery point and hi lift point too

i have pics on here with it fitted (try the bar)

Here are a few pictures of the Marshland Recovery point. It should look a neater cut than that but i messed up whilst cutting the bumper

the trailer electrics get in the way but you can see the general idea

well if thats what it is

then its a piece of cake

you use the bottom mounting of the marshland (onto the drop plate) and bolt the tank guard beneath it

the bolts that come with southdown should be long enough.

Right the definitive answer is yes it does fit but it needs a little modifying in that the bolts Marhsland supply screww directly into the recovery device and are 10mm the one southdown supply go right through and are 12mm so you need to enlarge the top holes on the Marshland, but other than that it fits.

Erm, why would you need the rear recovery & the southdowns when the southdowns has two recovery points in it anyway?

Or am I missing something really obvious?   :?

its simple

With the marshland rear recovery unit, you have what has to be the best recovery system going for the Disco

But even then there is no protection for the fuel tank and as I understand, the Southdown tank guard is the best out there

so why not have both,

T-Max 9000lb Winch
Rebel Diff Guards
Steering Guard
