With the stock gearing on a 4.0, you'll not want to go bigger than 31", you'll have no power left. Also bear in mind that the Dana 35c on the back of your cherry isn't the strongest axle ever made, and with tyres over 31", you'll wreck your halfshafts without a super 35 or equivalent axle upgrade to get some strength.
I'm sure bishops finger and isle of man would agree with me and urge you to ask the same question on Birty's, there are quite a few XJ owners over there who will be more than happy to help.
