FITTING 33/12.50/15 TO DISCO1

<< < (2/5) > >>

Budgie:
To fit 33" tyres you will need to cut the arches, I've also gone for the Rangie Spares arches from Devon 4x4 (you can get others off ebay that are a wee bit cheaper).

Unless you go for wheel spacers or different ofset wheels then you'll loose the turning circle of the vehicle as the tyres will rub on the radius arms.

With 33" tyres the overall gearing of the vehicle is changed and it will struggle up hills, even of the motorway, and there won't be any more cruising at 40mph in 5th, you'll be in 4th gear and at 30mph you'll be in 3rd.
You can over come this by either changing the transfer box for one from a TD5 Defender which has a 1.44:1 ratio instead of the 1.22:1 of the standard Disco, or change the ring & pinion in both axle diffs for 4.11:1 ratio R&P's that Ashcrofts sell. Both fo these will bring the overall gearing back to about normal, altough the engine revs will increase slightly so your MPG will suffer a bit.

With you only having a +2" lift then extended bumpstops may also be needed to stop the tyres hitting the inner arches on full articualation.

This is my Disco with +3" lift, Defender transfer box & wheel spacers. I had to take about an inch off the winch bumper at the front wheel arches to match the larger arches and to stop the tyres hitting it when turning.

Compare this first photo with the second, +2" lift in the first and +3" in the second.
The bottom two photos are with +3" lift and show you the clearences on full articulation.

All the discos I have seen on here are 3 doors.
Dont forget that fitting 33"s to a 5 door is quite a bit of work. Not just ozzy arches and a +2" lift.
