miss firing

(1/3) > >>

swc:
my previously smooth running series3 2.25 petrol with k&n filter is suddenly miss firing at idle. the only difference is that Ive sprayed a little waxoyl around (not deliberately near the engine!), could i have knackered the filter, are they easy to clean?

mark.yellow.series.3:
take the filter off and then run the engine, but i would expect it to run bad under load not at idle,

James.Harwood:
Is the filter red or black(if you used black waxoil).  Black filter needs cleaning, red ok.  K&N filters take a lot to block up, when they do get towards the stage of needing cleaning you only realy notice a drop in top end performance.

It is more likely to be be a spot of dirt in the idle jet in the carb, which carb are you using.

swc:
thanks for your replys. took the filter off this , no difference( although it is black).Continues to sound fine under load. Coming down hill , sounds awful back firing when using engine to brake. This all happened very suddenly, will investigate carb as suggested thanks again.

James.Harwood:
You may well have an air leak on the carb, this would explain the 'back firing' on engine braking.

Pops and bangs on engine overun are not a bad thing, it shows that your head is in good condition and you either have a 'Straight Through' exahust or knackered silencer box.
