Was that on the main camping ground ? I saw a tent dissappear away in the distance and into the corn field... but was barely holding mine down at the time...

The first is the Trailmasters stand in the main area the other is just outside the stands, directly behind the Iclandic Rovers Club.

Caravan was a write off and the 110 at the Trailmasters stand was sporting the new lowered aerodynamic windscreen... at least on the drivers side!

i spent the time holding down Muddywebs marque and protecting the apple pie at one stage i was nearly blown of my feet.

then i met up with evil goat and went and offered our sevices to the organiser's as first aiders fortuantly we wasn't needed.

It was great to see a few new faces sorry i can't remember but me and mrs old joe will be there at abingdon.

i was soaked through so i left early and i only spent £55

hope every body's ok

When we got stuck under the cabin porch on the way out we saw a tent get blown into the lake, it all just happened too quickly to even think about helping out.

I'm glad no-one was hurt too, we left feeling very concerned, but knew there was nothing we could do, infact we'd only make matters worse by getting in the way, so we went.

Luckily we had all just come back from the off road course to our tent, all sat down having a beer and noticed the clouds whirling like a vortex, the wind next, then monsoon rain then holding down the tent and gazebo for the next hour.
Certainly will not forget Billing 2006 in a hurry, also made the OR course very tricky today.

Cheers

We were driving the off road course when the storm hit....... driving through the lake was rather hair raising to say the least the disco was being pushed into the banking by the waves and the lightening was pretty scary. Mud run had been shut as we went round the second time and then the final hill a tree had been hit and gone down. Luckily we got round safely and arrived back to find our tent still in one piece (lucky is not what I would call it as it wasnt even pegged down  ) Only our bed suffered as I had left the flap open and it was soaked  Great weekend though, looking forward to next year

8) Me and my son were going to tough it out and watch the mountain bike guy but when my umbrella turned inside out we decided to make a run for it !  We took refuge in a very flimsy tent and then ran to the Devon 4x4 tent where they were giving out cider for adults and sweets for kids.  Husband went and got the 110 and rescued us and we returned to a colllapsed awning and water coming in through the roof light of the caravan.  The rain proved to be a great test of my repaired Disco sunroof, not a drop came in!  The kids had just finished colouring in their umbrellas from the Enthusiast tent, and guess what, the colours ran!
Can't remember how much I spent, mostly crap for the kids.  My straw hat melted in the deluge so I had to indulge in a rather lovely bush hat from Rogue,  bought the off road DVD and also got the husband a snorkel from Mantec which was half price(belated Fathers Day Gift).  Almost forgot, have been looking for a new dinner service and got a great set featuring loads of different Landies.  Are we anoraks or what?!!!
Check my website for pics.

We were just queing for the photo's when it hit... so a lot of us were all in the same area... ! I think Dazzawhipple was around there somewhere at the time too... we just abandoned the que ran for the disco as though we'd just robbed a bank... got back to the tent too late to stop anything from being soaked but just in time to hold the damn thing down... but only just...

Oh.. and Hi Annabelle ! Missed you this time but it's a cuppa in our tent next time... ( a new and slightly more watertight one !)

But all are welcome...

:D Yes, it was Jez Avery and he is very skilled and funny, just before the "cyclone" kicked in he was encouraging people to stay and watch - "If I leap 10 to 15 feet in the air, its not part of the act, I have been struck by lightning!".  Thanks for the invite for tea in your tent Graham, why don't you think about a caravan?  They don't blow away!

Was sat in my gazebo with Colin (ninety) when we spotted the black clouds.

I think I twent something like

Wow, look at them Anvil clouds...
They are moving a bit fast...
Hmm, that clouds starting to move like a cyclone...
This isnt goin to be good.

2 mins to lock bikes, stow generator, get what I could into the tend, throw a few things under Jake's awning then BAM down it game. Just hung in there with a power cord tied to the top of the Gazebo and a beer :)

Did three or four laps with Old Joe to offer some assistance but no-one seemed to know what was going on, when we did they were downright rude, so went and tried to dry off.

I dont think I have ever seen weather like that in the uk. It was very very close to a tornato, would have touched down in the top meadow.

As it was, 4 trees down, one trashed 110, one crushed caravan and Micra and two trees about to come down, lots of tents and marquees airborne :)

Importantly, no-one was hurt past a few bumps.

On a POsitive note. That Trailblazers 110 was trashed beyond recovery, the chassis has been distorted and its due to go on Expedition tomorrow. Atlas Overland stepped in and offered then indefinate loa of one of their veichles and went off Sat evening to prepare it. Now thats generosity.
I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.

We got our tent secured, then, as everything was wet anyway, we left it and went to lend a hand with Hissys awning... ..and I'de already dived into Dazzawhipples and secured his by then... so after all is said and done it could have been a lot worse... but it's given us plenty to talk about...

And yes, Annabelle, I may just get a caravan now !

From what I understand, no one was seriously hurt despite Ma'am Natures best efforts to blast us into Bedfordshire.

A couple o' arboriculturelists on the Camel stand shimmied up and loped a spar off themselves before it became a problem - they wanted it down under their control, not the weathers! Seems some of them trees on site ain't as healthy as would be desirable.  :-s

What was totally cool was the way everyone in Mud-Club was more concerned about everyone else than they were about themselves. Someone shouted and folk came a runnin', be it on the stand, at Muddywebs, in the campsite; even afterwards.

Nice one folks, you rock.  8)

I had a belting weekend spending very little (apart from the huuuuge sum I've commited to spend with Allisport for the racer) and it was sweet putting even more faces to names and avatars.

cheers

IS everyone ok from the people that camped at the show after Saturday’s weather change?
I was caught up in the photo centre from the off roading it was a nightmare with the rain and very high winds we thought it was a mini tornado what does every one else think it was.

I heard some people got killed and saw a land rover had a tree up lifted on to its roof.

No deaths reported. Mini tornado - from the descriptions from folk that saw it (I was holding a stand down) it seems it probably was! Luckily, it didn't 'touch down'.

If you mean the 110 thats in some of the pictures posted elsewhere (belonging to Trailmasters) - once the weight was taken off, the Land Rover was driven out. T'was a bit bent though.

Was a good day on the Sunday - Tried to spit a couple of times but didn't deter the fun. I'm going to upload all my pics to my Photobucket and if you see any you like (or any of your vehicle) Please PM me and I'll send you the High Res (2000x1500 odd!)

Got a chance to meet a few people as well, and I'm definatley coming back next year, WITH THE 110! :D
