CV Joint?
« on: July 17, 2006, 16:30:50 »
Ripped out the inner NSF CV joint yesterday whilst tearing around a quarry. Was lucky to have freewheeling hubs so I just continued for the rest of the day in 2WD and tied the shaft onto the suspension arm with a bungee!. Done some searching around this morning and was amazed to find that you can't buy the inner joint on it's own, you have to buy the whole shaft or get it refurbished.

Price for refurbish was £115 +vat so I gave KAP a call and they put me onto a guy called Dave (01959 533942) who specialises in used stuff. Came back to me with a price of £45 +vat for the whole shaft   :D  :D .

Also told me that the one that bust on me was the inferior spanish variety with a thin tin plate cover, so he is sending me the Jap one which is a lot stronger.

Was just wondering if the Procomp lift might have made the joint come out and if it might be an idea to fit some check straps. Have any of you guys had problems with CV's coming apart whilst on the rough stuff?

Cheers,

Mark.
