XP and IE Question

(1/2) > >>

Colin 009:
Hi all, a friend of mine has been told she has to reinstalle IE and Outlook after somehow losing her connection. She was not using anti virus software but will be once I've downloaded some free stuff.

Any way my question is should she have to pay £40 for a new copy of IE/outlook or can she/I download it from somewhere. Does she need IE or is there something else she could use.

Shes running XP by the way.

SMason0877:
I (as do alot of others) use Mozilla Firefox for web browsing(available from www.downloads.com).  It doesnt have alot of security holes as IE does and i personally find it much better to use.  MS Outlook comes as part of MS Office which you do neet to buy, however outlook express comes as part of xp.  If its just for email then outlook express will do the job nicely.

As for antivirus have a look at http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/ I know alot of people who use this and are very happy with it.

Hope this helps

Both come free with the operating system. You may need to reinstall XP to get em back, then run the web update for all the security updates.

An alternative to Outlook is Pegasus Email, its free from zdnet.com and much better than outlook (for one thing nobody writes viruses aimed at it).

For an alternative to IE try Mozilla (http://www.mozilla.org/) I have never used it myself but some people swear by it.
