4x4 and phones
Arightpest:
 Did anybody else hear on the radio today a news item saying because people with 4x4 believe there motors are safer to drive we are more likely to use a mobile phone while driving  . I nearly fell of me forklift laughing  what will we be accused of next. :( Have they lost the plot and are we going to be blamed for everything from now on. The next thing you know Gordon brown going to pop off his old bombs at the 4x4 fraternity just so he can use them up and buy some nice shiny new ones. :(mad): I wouldn’t mind it to much if they pointed them at the moon but strapped him and Tony to the first one followed by all the traffic wardens.  Rant over :(mad):

As a biker and living in the SE of England, I can wholeheartedly concur with these findings......Most peeps in 4X4`s do use the phone whilst driving, followed by truck drivers......Mmmmm, I see a trend here.
I would just like to add, that I use my phone only when stationary.......Having had plenty of near misses whilst riding with folks on mobile phones....It really is the only way.
I have had plenty more probs with these imbeciles than I have had with drink drivers.
If you use a mobile whilst driving, you should be banned.....Treat it the same as drink driving.

I do think that statement is a little harsh. 'Most peeps' probably means a small percentage of 'peeps' that drive 4x4's. It might be that you can see them easier than those in cars. Using a mobile (even seen people texting!), or eating, or drinking, or smoking, or doing make-up, or brushing hair, or changing a CD, or...... the list goes on..... is a stupid idea in any vehicle while in most situations.
Having said that, I followed a woman in a pink Vitara a week or so ago and she was on her phone when she passed me at the junction and stayed on it all the way through the local town. Then was still blabbing on it as she drove onto the dual carriageway. I had to pull in for fuel so I didn't see her put it down

In m y humble opinion the worst offenders are women drivers on the school run/bombing around town. I see them all day long. My opinion is of no consequence to the arguament though as I do not live in Hammersmith, the world centre of driving excelence, were the survey was conducted.
