replacing a transfer box

<< < (3/3)

nickW:
ive got the disco haynes and it says its easier to take out with the g'box. Hopefully i can ease the bearing out with the box in place but looking on the web it says that quite oftern the bearing wont ease out form the out side the transfer box has to be split

Wanderer:
I read all the stuff about doing the bearing with the t box still in place.
Mine is a 200tdi and it was so much grief that it would have been as easy to just remove the t box.

IMHO the bearing cannot be changed without removing the front output housing anyway and that's a pig of a job in situ as it means dropping the gearbox crossmember and you'll find you'll have a pig of a job getting at one of the bolts to the housing insitu becaue it is tucked behind the diff lock light switch so needs removal of the console etc. inside the motor.

I definately wouldn't try another front bearing insitu.
