Advice on fitting lift kit

Ok.. following a trip to Devils Pit without a lift kit  :shock: I've now brought one.. simple basic kit shocks and springs for now.. 2" lift..
Is it easy enough to do by myself and if so is there any advice from anyone regarding things to expect to go wrong etc.. and how long should it take all being well... ( dumb question..it's a landy ! )

You will need longer break pipes. Make sure you have an axesaw just incase the shock nuts do not undo. Removing the front bold on the radus arm will let you drop the front axel a lot more and you sill not need spring compressors.

On how long it will take, It took me almost 3 hours to do the drivers side front and 2 hours to do the other 3.

Exactly what is in the 2" lift kit, some of the cheaper basic kits use standard length dampers, so brake lines etc. are not a problem.

A good cold chiesel and hammer used to split the nuts is better than a hacksaw, especially in a confind wheel arch.

Make sure you have got new turret bolt rings complete with nuts, because the chances are the origionals will not be fit to use again.


It can either be a very quick job, especially with a bit of practice, or it can be a nightmare when you find one or more brakets that the springs or dampers mount to are badly rusted. Having said that Discoverys should be as badly rusted as older RRCs.

I saw a good tip if you want to spend the extra bit of cash.

Replace the turrets at the same time. Undo the bottom of the old shock. Undo  the nuts on the turret securing ring (as said before you will probably need to replace this. Get the nuts for it at the same time). Withdraw the turrets with the attached shocks and throw the whole lot away.

See about polybushing at the same time whilst you have it dismantled.
