Even tho I drive a zook, Id still want to be in the ladder chassis rangie  4x4 in a real world smash.
low speed bump(no contest) higher speed bump, Id like to see more results head on etc.
OK, in a pre-determined crash against a people carrier, it came out worst, Id be pretty sure it'd ride over/thru a smaller car.
They make tv worth watching dont they, if the rangie had hit the mpv head on and demolished it, there would have been no surprise factor would there.
Real world, rangie versus hatchback, Id vote rangie
Rangie versus modern car in a crash against atruck or similar, Id vote rangie.
Its like statistics, you can get em to prove anything(85 % of people already know that)

--- Quote from: "joe90" ---is it really a fair test pitching a vehicle designed mid 90's against a new style MPV

mid 90's is optimistic for discovery chassis design, the basic chassis design dates from the rrc of the eairly 70's

Crash testing is flawed in that every crash is unique, one crash test on tv used a landrover and a typical modern saloon/hatch driven at about 30 mph IIRC into a standing dummy in the middle of the road. The result, becasue of how the dummy lent over the lr bonnet the chances are it would have survived, compared to the car which flicked the dummy up, causing sevire head damage as it landed.
Morral of the story, your safety is never garrantied (thats why third party insurance is manditory).
