help, 3.5 efi dizzy

Hi, took the dizy cap and rotor arm off the rangie to give it a clean :) , but now it wont go back on :cry: . the rotor arm seems to be sitting too high and the cap just rocks on the centre tit..... :?
anyone got any ideas ???? :oops:

Sorry if I'm trying to teach granny to suck eggs but have you checked to see if there is a lug under the rotor and if so is it lined up with the slot on the shaft.

I've got to hope Dave is right about that because the alternative is that the dizzy bust when you were removing the old rotor arm and has somehow collapsed inside. Never had it happen but I've heard it does.
If it has then the dizzy is toast, so fingers crossed for you mate. :?

Thxs guys, yep rotor is fully on the lug , I think it is approx 1/2 inch too high, checked a 3.9 efi yesterday and the rotor arm seemed lower, also there was some rotational free play that was spring loaded return, mine is just free no spring effect.......

One of mine did this and the way i sorted it was to mark the position of the dizzy and then undo the clamp bolt and twist it advance / retard while rocking (Twist) the shaft with the arm on this allowed the shaft to drop back down. If this dosent work for you i do have a spare of my now redundant V8 as i have fitted a 300 TDI.it's your for the cost of the postage and a few beers.
