Green Oval-itis

Old Warthog:
As people who were following the Yorkshire Dales laning trip of a couple of weeks ago will know, some kind B****** managed to write off my 4 Trak, just as I finally got everything sorted on it.

Despite my fondness for exotic Japanery, (japcrap, as some people on the forum put it   ) the creeping roverititis has got to me and I am now the proud owner of a '82 Series 3 SWB.  I could probably have bought something a quarter of it's age for the money, but I've got to admit that for a mechanical dummy like me, the sheer simplicity and part availability made a big difference in my decision.

It's the 2.25 petrol and the guy I got it off reckons that as it was one of the last Series 3 built, Land Rover had just about got it right.

I pick it up on Thursday and will be giving it a good going over before taking it off road (it's been used around a farm on flattish fields).

The chassis looks OK, the engine is filthy, but no worse underneath than on top, it doesn't jump out of second on over run and changes ok.

So, if you've got any advice on what else I should look for/do once I get my mitts on it, I look forward to hearing from you.

Cheers

Keith

Jim-Willy:
Ha ha.  Nice one.  Congratulations on seeing the light :D

Miniman:
Nice one keith glad to hear you are now one of the gang. There is one thing you need to have to drive a series and that is big arms. There is no power steering. They are ok once rolling but heavy to park. Rust is the main problem with series motors. Have you bought it or are you going to view. They are heavy on fuel the petrol but driven correctly they are not to bad. A gas conversion may be the way to go. Any help you need I am here. If you was a bit closer I would be happy to come along with you.

Tigger:
2.25 Petrol is a superb engine in the vehicle off road.

Make sure your springs are in good nick, stick a decent set of tyres on it and be amazed at where it will go

Every time I look at this topic I read it as "Green Oval-tits".

Anyone think my mind may be elsewhere :D
