Advice on prolonging life of CAT

Just bought second hand CAt for my 3.9 Discovery as the current one has been butchered.

Any way i can prolong the life before i fit it, high temp paint etc?

be gentle with it dont throw it about the ceramic inside are fragile and prone to cracking up don't put exhaust paste on the manifold side it can damage the ceramics.
