300TDI Pump timing
« on: March 22, 2006, 20:56:18 »
I happened to read the interesting article about adjusting the pump timing. I have a serious concern with part about marking the centre bolt. This will not achieve anything as what you are changing is the relationship between the centre shaft and the driven pulley not the timing cover. hence once you have tried to start the engine to check if things have changed you no longer have a
reference point. The only way that this method would work is if you only adjust the pump with the engine in exactly the same position. A much easier method is to mark the position of one of the 3 lock bolts, that way the timing can be put back at any position in the engines cycle.
