No it doesn't. I've been running 21 watt sidelights for years and they've never melted a lens.

halogen do have a down side when laning, if you dont seal the cable/plug they fill with water......and you cant clean the inside! I will go back to sealed beams soon.

& im telling you it does,fed up of changing them at work due to folk assuming that it will be ok & then coming in a week later with the lenses melted to fa

also the only time its legal to run on sidelights only is when you are in a built up area with streetlights & there is enough light to see safely,
been stoped before when i had my clio & was running about at night on sidelights
