Bulli:
Bit of a red herring. Yes larger tyres do effect your gearing and will put more strain on your transmission(it has to work harder) but he's the one doing the 'wind-up'
You can get 35's in with a 2 inch lift...but you need 4 inch offset wheels and arch extensions...wouldnt recommend it on stock gearing either.
Fit the lift first then decide...31's are a good size ...make small children smile when they see you!!!LOL
Brother Ted:
Well here are my 235/85/R16 BFG Mud Terrains on a disco with a 2" Lift.
Haven't done any off-roading with them yet as we havent finished (As you can probably see.) but hopefully it wont be a problem or wind up the trans!

Very nice!
If larger tyres affect accelaration, do you gain on top end I wonder?
My 2" lift will be fitted in the next month...Can't wait.
Brother Ted, I see you have lots of room in front of your rad for a nice fat intercooler. Well worth the investment. Had mine 2 years now and loved every minute. Great accelaration (for a Disco tdi!) and doesn't slow down going up hills like a standard one....
Brother Ted:
Hi simon,
We've just flushed out the original intercooler for now with some paint thinners, but I think a big one will be well worth the investment in the future - the photo there is about a month old, it looks like this now.
Obviously its quite heavy, got rock/tree sliders, 2" lift, scorpion front and rear bumper, super winch EPi9, this seems to affect top end speed (ie, it maxes out at 80) not sure if this is a problem or just cos its so heavy, also not sure if the wheels make a big difference to the speedo.
Where did you get your intercooler? i hear you can get some pretty good 2nd hand ones, someone mentioned volvo and citroen ones i think.
BIG-OKI:
thanks all for the info. the lift and tyres have to stay on hold for a bit. my turbo decided to blow last night
i will keep the info in mind.
 if i win the lotto its a new truck and fully kitted out  fingers crossed for wednesday :!:
