Thermostat Temperature 200tdi

i have found out from a mate at landrover that the 200 should have a 88deg stat so i have fitted the one i bought.

even now it wont get hot, its got a new rad, viscous fan and now stat??

the temp will go up to 1/3 if i really open her up on a long hill but when in traffic or moving slower it goes back to zero.

the heater in the car does work but i would'nt say hot.

Maybe its ok, i know diesels do run colder than petrol and id rather it run cold than hot

does the heater blow hot air out when the gauge is on a third? my gauge goes down when in slow moving traffic but then again I have binned the viscous fan and put a kenlowe in,so it might be that its not running hot enough in traffic,or there could be crap in the heater matrix,have you tried flushing it out really well?

If your heater isnt blowing hot air, then the most likely culprit is the heater matrix. Its only the equivalent of a small radiator, and if you have had to replace the rad chances are the heater matrix needs doing too.
Im led to believe its a big job, but i wudnt know as my disco had a new one fitted just before i got it.
It may just need a clean out as they do tend to get blocked up over time.

Have you thought that your gauge isnt reliable? i never trust electric gauges, if your really worried invest in a capilary temperature gauge, there less than 20quid, and far more reliable than an electric one.

You will find with the cold weather that the engine wont get that hot anyway, if it does expect big problems when the summer arrives.

same with mine
changed stat to 88 deg
runs just below half on the temp gauge
heater works ok after about ten mins driving
but i cant belive that it would have been that poor when
it left the factory
and what do they do in places like canada in the winter
i sure they wouldnt put up with a poor heater in their winter conditions
there must be an answer but i dont know it
i did have a lot of fords in the past and used to put 92 deg stat in
so to get a good heater
dont know if you can still get them
or if they could be fitted
does anyone know ?

Try flushing out the matrix, if that doesnt work then maybe its time for a new one??

IMO forget changing the stat for a higher temperature, look for the cause of the problem, instead of finding a way around it.
