Thermostat Temperature 200tdi
Rob110:
Hi all.
My disco has been running cold recently so i have decided to buy a new stat and fit it at the weekend.
im a little worried though as the Haynes manual says it should have an opening temp of 82 deg and the stat i have been given says 89 deg.
Am i being to picky or should i take it back and ask for a 82 deg one??
oh, the part number was QTH117K equiv MTO117K made by QH, is this the right one?
Any advice as i want to get it right.

I'm not sure whether you would get away with a 87 degree thermostat. Have a look at what temperature the last one was rated at.
However, typicaly when a stat fails, they fail shut, causing the water to boil, which can lead to a spectaculare and worrying fountain of water out from the pressure cap.
The way to test a suspect thermostst is to stick it in a sauce pan of water over the stove with a thermometer in the water near the thermostst, it should start to open around the stated temperature, if it doesn't then chuck it.

i was just going to replace it anyway as its not expensive, might not even have one in as its never got hot, even when laning all day the guage is at most on the first quarter and the heater is never that hot.
just wondering if 7 deg will make much difference?
dont want it getting to hot

Hi mate.mines a 200 and it's never goes above the first quarter but it does get hot.

ay-up Ive got a 200 and I have the 89 degree thermostat in mine, the gauge sits just below half and never moves and the heater is toasty!!! after about 2-3 miles,it doesnt overheat.....the thermostat you have bought is a 300tdi one but it will fit and run ok..........no doubt someone will correct me but the proof of the pudding is in the eating.
