SJ 413 headlight trouble
« on: March 12, 2006, 19:36:25 »
Hi All. I have a sj413 and for some reason the headlights are on all the time. Even without ignition on and the combi switch removed they are still on. I don`t know if this is a common problem or not but i`ve spent hours on it and its doing my head in!! :(bigangry): Just the headlights are on dipped beam and no other lights. Any help would be appreciated. THANKS!!

NO car in production uses a positive earth system!

Its probobly one of the headlamp relays has become spotwelded. Get your manual or ask about, find out which it is and pullit. If that fixes the problem you can try changing the relays. These are ISO standard units so go pilch one out of an Escort or something :)

If it persists you neex to trace back the switch to the relay. I suspect what Gen-X meant is that the -Ve side is interrupted by the switch not the + side so you need to find out why its not being de-energized.

If it stays on with the relay out you might have the harness wiring being pulled down to earth someplace, go look for shorts :)

Only thing I wish I had a haynes manual for is the wiring diagrams.
I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.

Thank you both for the reply. I have just looked at the wiring diagram and will have another look tomorrow. Thanks  Again. Mark
