cracked piston ring?

<< < (2/2)

jimthelandyman:
It has come to my attention that the oil in the air filter is probably a blocked breather, and someone has told me that i have more than likely got a cracked piston ring causing the low compression and the oil in the cylinder. Anyone know roughly how much it would be to have a ring replaced?

Miniman:
Nobody can tell you how much or how long. Its one of thoses job you hate doing as its head off and sump. So that means new gaskets head gasket. Also if you going to get one done why not replace all of them whilst you got it in bits. You never know in another month you may have another ring to replace. Big end shells aswell. Its going to cost but at least you have piece of mind when its done. New head bolts. You better doing it right oh and not forgetting little ends. Is it a Turbo diesel or N/A ?

jimthelandyman:
Its a turbo diesel, will be getting the garage to do the job, me and my old man can't be bothered doing it on the drive. Just don't understand why the piston ring has gone because the engine was rebuilt just under 20K miles ago, anyway like you said i will have a piece of mind when its done.
