graham2306:
5 grand included galv chassis and repaired bulkhead but no other parts and was very much a 'well it could be anything up to' figure.

Blinkin' flip. You can buy a nice motor for that. Mind, I s'pose you'd have one either way.  Seems like a lot of dosh tho' Good luck with the gas axing.

Range Rover Blues:
Five grand, yeah I could see that (and the rest). Trouble is your paying for time on top of that 1k for the chassis.  Replacing a chassis sounds like it's only viable if you want to do the work in your own time for the fun of it.  I used to do all my own spanner work, still do really but now I'm self-employed I have to take a step back and think 'is this the best/most profitable use of my time?'   If the jobs a pain then sometimes you have to pass it up. that said I started doing all my own spanner work on the Cavalier soon after it was new because I got fed up with paying someone to do a job then having to do it again properly myself at a later date.
You could rent a unit for a lot less than 4 grand though!

bill:
PM OUTKAST he is getting his done in jan for a fraction of that price.
Then again, all depends on the work needed I guess.

all the brest and good luck.
keep us informed.
