HELP!!! our '90 just died - 2.5 N/A engine
robbie:
strange one here and I dont know which way to turn.
History of the problem is that we developed a severe oil leak which turned out to be the gasket for the fuel pump. No big issue, gasket changed, job done.
Started the engine, no problems. Left it ticking over for a few minutes to make sure we had no more leaks or diesel leaks. We did not seem to need to bleed the system
Previous to this some months ago, the stop solenoid went faulty and I also put on a new stop solenoid, which didnt seem to do the trick so I put back the old one. (We had been running it without the plunger in and having to 'stall' the car to stop the engine)
We then run it round the block and this is where the strange even ts happened. The engine would not idle and was probably ticking over at around 2000 revs. I tried turning the throttle back a little to slow it down which seemed to work but when we revved it, it tooks seconds for it to go back to idle.
On the last occasion we tried revving it, the engine stopped and will now not start at all and I dont see why.
I am not very good with diesels and dont fully understand the working (petrol fine, just never needed to work on a diesel to this depth!!)
Anyone any ideas?
How long would the engine tick over if we did have an air block?? We have had the engine running for over 5 minutes and driven about 500yrds around the bloick, so I would have thought that it would have failed before that time if it was air
Does it just simply need bleeding?? (never done that either)
Andy the Landy:
Not sure what to suggest Rob - but if you need a hand bleeding the system I'm off work tomorrow so could pop round on my way back from Northern Land Rovers. Just yell if your gonna be in
robbie:
That would be good Andy, I am working from home tomorrow which will be great :)
I aint bled diesel systems before so not sure where to start. It probably is dead easy but always easier if your watching someone for the first time :)
Give me a buzz on my mobile an d let me know what time you will be popping round and I will make sure I am deffo in
Andy the Landy:
Might be around 10.30 to 11.00. I'll give you a bell as I'm setting off. Did you manage to find the manuals or shall I print off the relevant pages from mine
robbie:
I have a manual on my laptop but cant find the reference to bleeding the system.... if you can bring yours it will be ab out the same I reckon
10.30 - 11.00 will be fine. Let me know when you are near cos I will be in the back and dont always hear the front door go
Ta :D
