V8 distributor waterproofing

<< < (3/4) > >>

Xtremeteam:
the best way to waterproof a V8 is as follows

clean all the leads with a good solvent to remove all traces of contamination, then soak/cover in wd40,for the cap remove & clean with a solvent till its spotless, put a small bead of silicone GREASE not standard silicone round thre lip & before puting back on a small skoosh o wd,for the coil i personally use a asda icecream tub as it has a snap lid,put the coil inside that with gromets for all wires coming out

Jake:
The 9 fingered gloves that are for sale.
I have 2 mates that bought them and both sent them back after 1 week.

1. They arn't big enough to cover the distributer.
2. They split because the latex is too thin.

I'd go for the chain lube method.
 :D

Evilgoat:
Just ordered new leads, dizzy cap etc. All going to be treated to a coat of silicon comformal coating before it goes on the either heavy grease/chail oil to seal the cap and plogs and a bit more silicon conformal coating. Sure It'll stink for a few minutes when it warms up but should be waterprrof.

Besides, Other things will fill with water before that even becomes a problme right now ;)

Spray silicon conformal coating can be had from most large electronics places (RS, Rapid, Farnell, Poss Maplins), High temp version is best. The Audi has resolutely failed to even miss a beat in quite a large amount of water and has been done the same way.

LandRoger:
Marigold glove -with silocone grease-zip tie=Job done!!

cluffy:
i have a v8 no probs with water at all. The coils bin removed and is now situated inthe passingers foot well, using an extra long lead through the bulk head and seald up with the old faithful silcon. As for the dizzy ive used one marry gold two leads in each finger. i also took the time to take the leads apart and usd heat shrink sleaving over the end caps to try stop sum moisture,Then poped them through the fingers pulling the glove right down over the cap.  If you realy want to spend the time their are two tiny hole in the very botom of the dizzy ,Remove the hole unit bung up the holes an reasamble. Ive had the 8 up to the scuttle pannel by the wippers now still running no probs atall.
