A question for those with extended shackles

Have you had any problems with the lenght of ur propsahft and ur propshaft hitting the bellhousing cross member and wat did u do to sort the problem out.

You do get a problem with the front prop on full articulation as you say it hits the engine cross member. You can grind a part of the cross member out and weld a slope into it so that it clears or i just ignored it as it only contacts on full articulation and the amout it contacts is only very slight.

On the 109" it shouldn't be a problem, but as Stanton Boy said it can be on the 88".  Can not understand this as there is very little difference if any in the chassie at the front

Never had mine hit although the front prop UJ's do tend to knacker a bit quick if you don't have free wheel hubs (only thing they are usefull for).  it is a suffix a, later ones may have a problem.

On the one tons there was a cutout in the cross member to clear the prop. Have you just fitted extensions to the back of your springs (swing arms) or have you extended the fronts as well?

hi,

i got them on my 88 and all seems to be ok at the moment, had it just over a year now and mine does get some extreme articulation and abbuse and i still on the same prob and not seem any sign of it rubbing, just fir them and see how it goes, mine had been fine so far, i got the chris perfect 2 inch extended shackles.



this is my front at almost full articulation at a recent trial, no funny noises or banging.

Ive got them on the front and rear. But i havent test them yet due to having to change the swivels on the front along with a uj in the half shaft and ive got to replace the the brake wheel cylinders due to the nipples braking off :evil:  hopefull nothing more will go wrong.

No problem at all on a 109 otherwise the military wouldnt use em!

I meant the front and rear of the springs, not the vehicle. I assume you have welded on the new mounts then to replace the dumb irons and the rear hangers? If not you might get some"interesting" geometry...

That might be the problem then. You will have your axles twisted at an angle slightly if you have put the long swing arms on. You can get away with it on the back but up front it can cause trouble.

What with wedges? I am not sure then, but something muct be up if the prop is hitting the chassis.

i ground about 3mm to 5mm off of the seat.
