Steering lock

(1/3) > >>

Daz800:
Sometime when i (or swmbo) tryed to start the car the key will not turn. Is this a common fault or is it a fault that can be fixed with the old wd40.

My car is under landrover warrentry, so if it is a faulty lock will they replace the steering lock or will they do the complete set.

i know my mums 300tdi suffers from this  i think she needs a new ignition barrel on hers my dad has had it apart/wd40'd etc but it is still the same.  so if it is under warranty get it done.  joe

Mine does that buts its a 1990 disco 1 unfortunately the warranty ran out many many years ago so now when it happens I have to do the ignition key shuffle.  I think it must be a common fault.

Yes it is on the D1's for sure, had to replace mine after the key mated with the lock

On the D1's though you can use a rrc unit as well as a replacement, just check the wiring out on the back of the block

Sometimes it can be the electric block on the back of the barrel unit, They can be changed without ripping out the whole lock unit, just one or 2 small screws holding it onto the lock mech.

The hybrid has a rrc column, and the wiring block does move a little bit,  so when I start it it will start and when i let go of the key it stops again, just have to move the wiring a little bit and all ok

But putting some spray oil in the lock itself will not do it any harm, you could always try the spare key on th elock, but be careful not to force it, as your lock will be worn

All the above info is for a D1/RRC, not had any time with any other model

Daz800:
Its defo the lock as we have tryed the spare key and it does the same with that.
Looks like a call to LR after the xmas hols. (or land rover asst if its goes t***s up).
