Did anyone else see that superb programme on BBC2 last night?
'The Victoria Cross. For Valour'

It was presented by Jeremy Clarkson and mainly concerned Major Robert Henry Cain and how he won his VC.
He won it whilst defending his positions at Oosterberg (Arnhem) against German attackers.
He eventually knocked-out 6 Tiger tanks with a PIAT!!
Despite severe injuries & the possibilty of evacuation he stayed & took part in the ensuing fighting.

Clarkson has a personal interest as Cain is his (deceased) father-in-law.

He parted with the comment that some people call Beckham a hero for kicking a Pigs Bladder. No comparison is there???

When Clarkson does documentary he does it very well indeed. Remember his impassioned plea when he was trying to persuade us all to vote for Isambard Kingdom Brunel as 'The Greatest Britain'

Indeed, it was very moving at the end of the programme when Clarkson admitted to Major Cain being his father-in-law and another damned good reason to be proud of what this man had achieved.

Agree totally that Clarkson can habitually produce great documentaries, the subject matter of which he obviously feels passionate about - as it shows!

This is exactly the sort of media star we need to persuade to represent aspects of our hobby - the DEFRA proposals would be quickly and effortlessly exposed as the ill-conceived and prejudice nonsense it is!!

Yup, we saw it.

Very humbling in it's entirety.  Those guys were all something special.  You have to wonder how some of them achieved what they did.

'For Valour' ought to be part of the National Curriculum in History, but I'd guess it never will be.
Kids might take it on board, with it being Clarkson.

It's the same with a brilliant series on Discovery (SKY 551). 'Industrial Revalations', it's presented by Mark Williams (Fast Show)
It seems to be aimed at interesting teenagers in the Industrial Revolution & subsequent developments.
It's a damn good series whatever. Catch it if you can.
