Will a V8 work with 200tdi mounts
« on: November 28, 2005, 09:16:59 »
I have found an OE chassis that has been galvanized for my 110. The only thing is it has 200tdi engine mounts and I run a V8.

Will the V8 work with the 200tdi mounts or will I have to change them? I do not want to have to weld new mounts on as this would take the galvanization off around the mounts.

Any thoughts on this to help me make up my mind? I am not sure if a used chassis that has been galvanized is the best way to go.  :?:

I don't think the V8 will fit the 200 TDi mounts. You could make up some brackets on the engine side that may work but you also need to look at the gearbox mounts if you intend to use the auto box as these may have to be moved as well.

It shouldn't be a problem moving either of the mounts as the chassis doesn't tent to rust around these mounting points and a good coating of waxoil should see it through.

Just been doing the same thing on the 90 rebuild a few weeks back. I had to move the engine mounts a couple of inches forward as it was a 200tdi galv. chassis & I've got a 300. I, like you weighed up the options but as Budgie said, because of oil leaks etc the chissis' don't really rust around the engine. The gearbox mounts should be on bolted plates so they can be modded accordingly without disturbing the galv.

Oh & if you do end up welding new mounts on, remember that the fumes from the zinc are poisonous (even though you'll have ground it off from the area to be welded, its still gonna burn off from the inside), so do it in a well ventilated area, a bit at a time!!

Do you know of anyone that has done the conversion mounts as I may want to keep the 200tdi mounts as you said?
