My neighbour works on computer electronic repairs, his speciality was monitors before he diversified. A lot of the problems are from a small transformer and related components, he managed to fix a 5 year old goodmans 28", lasted another 2 years, then went again.

They are not made to last nowadays, not in the manufacturers interest, also the components are cheaper if they are sub standard

Sometime they can be done, depends on the repairer and components. He spent 6 months ordereing component for one tv, but still never got the right ones. That one finally had to finish up in the skip too, and it was not a cheap one either. No wonder people have a lot of accidents at home, with house insurance policies
