My TD5 disco is coming up to its 24000 mile serviceand am thinking of trying to find a good local garage to do the work rather than a dealer. Anyone got any recommendations.

I can recommend them. They've never had a problem working on Piglet and Kanga ... not taken Owl to see them yet :)

Good rates, and good guys. Mark is a top bloke :-)

I have used Rogers for years to buy parts (Alan on the parts counter will give 10% club discount on genuine items) but have only used them once for servicing. Used them to do the 6000-mile service on my new 300TDI engine last year (LR genuine part engine) as they were less than half the price of my local franchised dealer.

Quick & effiecient but they advised me that my rear main oil-seal was leaking and I should get it fixed before the warranty expired. I cleaned it up when I go home and found the sump-plug was the cause of the leak, oil was being carried under the vehicle with quite a bit collecting on the bottom of the bellhousing. I replaced the plug & washer with a screw-in plug from Difflock (allows you to drain oil without getting covered with oil as you remove the plug) and since then no more 'leaky oil seal'.

As you say, nothing new there but the worrying thing is that they wanted me to take it back to the franchised dealer and get them to do the work under warranty. If I hadn't had the presence of mind to take a quick peak myself and establish exactly what the fault was they would have ended up looking pretty silly and I would have got a lecture off the main dealer about it being a good reason to stick to franchised dealerships in the future (as if!).  :?
