ALLISPORT INTERCOOLER
« on: November 09, 2005, 21:33:21 »
Me again,
I've recently installed my Allisport full length intercooler on the 300TDi Laila. She's going well, and on a recent trip to Langdale managed 36MPG, including the off roading 8) What I didn't do was increase the fuel mixture, partly because I ran out of time.......
Now, if there's more air getting into the mixture, will the fuel/air mix burn 'hotter', thus increasing exhaust gas temp? If so, will this have a detromental effect on the life of the engine components?

Cheers

Nope...

The above statement would be true for a petrol engine.... but a diesel is different.

If you run a petrol lean, then you will get high Exhaust Temps...

However, a diesel will always run lean - as a comparison, the ideal ratio for a petrol is 14.7:1 (air to fuel) - where-as a diesel, the richest you will usually see is about 18:1 and a lean level of about 30:1...

To get to the point:

A diesel is the reverse to a petrol.... more fuel in a Diesel will increase the EGT, less fuel will reduce it.

You won't IMHO have any problems running as you are... apart from possibly increased turbo lag.

If you want more performance then tweak away (very easy) or if your happy 'as-is' then don't do anything.
