Good job he had twin wheels on the back to make it wider than the hole. :!:

My best guess would be "deep enough". A quick search shows that there is nothing very deep on the North Island, all the deepest caves being on the South island, http://www.massey.ac.nz/~sglasgow/nzss/deepcave.htm , but I haven't been able to get to the Nelson Speleo Group website as it causes a fatal error in IE. There's some deep enough stuff over the other side of the North Island around Waitomo, the biggest pitch I did out there was a 100m free hang but it was all in daylight. For deep caves you need to look closer to home, they're mostly in europe, http://www.pipeline.com/~caverbob/wdeep.htm . The Berger was the first explored to over 1km depth but is now only the 25th deepest. Eeyore & I got down to about -600, but the condirtions were such that any further wouldn't have been sensible.
Must say I prefer big open horizontal stuff, and was lucky enough to be on the original exploration of Khe Rhy,  http://www.croydoncavingclub.org.uk/Archive/Pelobates/073/S12.htm , which has now been extended to give the longest underground river in the world that can be traversed without diving.

Regards

Andy
