Montego Tdi engine Fitting to Series Anyone?
« on: November 03, 2005, 15:10:57 »
Has anyone fitted a Montego Tdi Engine into a series Landie Before?
As i was told last night that it would go straight in? and match the G/Box Bellhousing Too?
Not too sure though?
Anyone tackled this?

I know the Petrol Montegos had the A+ engine with was the successor to the A-Series (Mini's, Austin 1100/1800s, Wolseleys etc.)

No idea is that helps or not, I know didley about Landy engines....

The TDI is the Perkins Prima.  Very common conversion in Series Landys.

The A+ was only in the baby 1300's (Mini 1275cc motor), the 1600 and 2 litre were O and S series (derived from MG B series).

That diesel is indeed the old perkins prima, later modified into the L series by Rover and eventually ended up in the first Freelanders complete with turbo and drive-by-wire. Not a bad old motor ! Would definately recommend the TDi version, in the old f/l it fairly whipped along - bags of torque to go around.

Cheers, Simon

Hmm

You want to change the 2 1/4 petrol for a diesel.

That puts a different light on it.

NOoooooooooooooooooo

Tune the petrol, get a gas conversion, fit a second petrol tank, try and win the lottery, yes i prefer petrol to diesel.

Far too much effort methinks... my experience of fiddling with things like this i.e. making new alternator mounings, changing engine mounts etc. is that you end up spending your life fixing/ modifying them when they break.

Look here, there's an army of converters/converted here that will answer all your questions!!

http://www.yojimbo.uklinux.net/sbbllc/forum/

If you can lay your hands on a Sherpa Van Prima NA engine you can do the conversion for next to nothing as myself and a couple of others have done.

PM me and I'll send you some other url's and information.

Prima Powered Series Motors fly....well.. relatively speaking.  Comfortable cruising at 60 plus 35mpg is good for me
