Spring question

<< < (5/6) > >>

discov8:
I have a lot of protection and winch on my Disco and find the +2" std yellow and blue springs not stiff enough.

I've got plus 3"progressive rated springs at  240lbs front and 350 lbs rear.  I use Oram dampers.

This considers the permanent fittings on the front end, winch and winch bumper, steering protection etc.  With the vehicle laden or unladen.

The rear end unladen has approx 50kgs over std plus another 100kgs laden with bits in the back for a full weekends off roading when you carry recovery gear, tools and spares.

Also the higher you go the potential for more body roll.

A post above mentions for towing a plus 2" would have been better, no a higher rated spring would be better.  This would keep the vehicle more level and improve the steering when towing a heavy load.

Range Rover Blues:
OOUr car has +2" springs all round, I don't know who made them but they are blue

Anyway, I've replaced all the shocks and have Procomp on the rear but I fancied trying DeCarbon on the front.  They seem very similar if a little harder, they certainly don't justify the extra cost even without the lifetime warranty from Explorer on the ProComp.  Thats's what I'll fit in future.

BTW I had the car weighed recently, It's some 400kg over weight, which might explain why it doesn't look +2" any more.

chuggaman:
i bought an mm4x4 3 inch lift kit

i got bearmach (blue)springs and procomp +2 shocks

if you add more weight to the disco
(winch bumpers and the likes of)
then you may end up putting spacers on too

rememberthe disco is a heavy old truck

with spacers under the springs i must say everything is much better for me

I've just got a 1994 disco which has been pampered and needs to be kitted up for off rd, I am thinking of using Ironman 2" lift, whats your thoughts.(from west coast 4x4)

LCW11:
THIS IS A GREAT POST, But im even more confused now :?    looking for  2'' lift will only be fitting a scorpion racing style front bumper , steering gaurd / bash plate prob. will not bother with a winch,
i am guessing 225x75x16 MT's. , i willalso fit a aftermarket rear bumper as well for recovery purposes..
