to grind or not to grind?

<< < (4/4)

Range Rover Blues:
I chiseled one off, I like to hit things.  The the new one got stuck and I had to chisel that one as well.  Get a new stub axle, the fit is very accurate and any surface damage will make it useless.

BTW if you grind a bearing that's an interferance fit (or b****ed like this one) I find that the heat from grinding plus the weakening effect of removing metal from one part of the race will weaken it sufficient for it to be removed without cutting right through.  Alternatively a little arc welding should also make the bearing metal very brittle, just so you know

i got home earlier today so had a go at getting it off the stub axle i put a disc cut in the inner bearing race and a few whacks with a nice sharp cold chisel and luckily it just cracked and i then i tapped it off the stub axle :D. ive took the swivel off and put a new seal and bearings in so now ive just got to put it all back together tomorrow. i just hope that the other side goes ok, thanks for all the suggestion's.  joe
