Tuning a 2.25 diesel

Anyone know if the 2.25 can be tuned in anyway just to give it a bit more power, it also mustn't be expensive or hard to do. Also anyone seen the article on the turbo for the 2.25 engines on the very back page of the latest LRO magazine seems interesting, or has any of you got one?

If the 2.25 is the same one that is in the '86 LR 90s, then the best way to get more power out of it is to ensure you plan your route with as many downhills as possible....... the bad news is that it aint nice getting back home UP the hills......
If I could only find some mud to play in, I would be as happy as the preverbial pig!!!

ye thats a good idea unfortunately there are so many hills round my area so there are as much uphills as downhills lol. I hate it when people tailgate me when i can't get enough speed up a hill so i usually slow right down to 10mph to really naff them off it serves them right for tailgaiting lol i suggest every series owner tries it its a way of revenge just cos we are slow uphills, wait until they have some of my towbar in thier plastic spaceage looking car haha.

you can try fitting LPG to it, it can give you a 10-15% boost in power, as well as cleaning up your emissions a bit
http://www.tinleytech.co.uk do such a kit, for about £400, dunno if thats cheap enough for you.
oh, and it gets you better economy, too

Sounds good but are the 2.25's up to taking all these mods because they are an old engine and i don't want to be straining the engine.

UNfortunatly the only way tune this engine is to take it out and fit somthing better, i tried many ways to tune this engine without success.

But if your sure you want to go down this route i still have a recon cylinder head that has been ported and the manifold matched for sale.

Hi fella its me chris. You have seen how fast my motor goes. There is the fact of a lightened flywheel or porting and flowing the head. Lightening the crank but it may cause problems if you don't tufrid and nitrate it. New filter is a good one if it's not had it for a while. Also get rid of the old restricting oil bath filter that has worked well on mine. It also goes better with a gearbox that works.....lol.....

What you after power or econemy....?
Its hard to get both.

in regards to the turbo kit thats in the back page of LRo i just junked a complete set up pretty much similar to that that came on my 90's engine when i bout it before i fitted the tdi

Nah i think i'll just leave it i was just seeing if there were any quick easy cheap mods around. Anyways i might be getting a 90 soon don't know fully yet so i think i'll just concentrate on sorting everything out on it fully, did half of it last winter and now i'll finish it off this winter, beats watching TV but there again its normally warm when you watch TV lol.

just make sure it is a newish one that doesnt have the 2.25 N/A, otherwise you will be well miffed  :wink:

Best thing to do with the 2.25 diesel is to replace with petrol 2.25 if you don't want to much hassle from the insurance.

Reliability is far better on the petrol.

Then you can do no end to it.

Fitting a turbo would result in regular repair bills, these engines won't take it for long.

I love my diesel!  :D The only problem is when you either have the butterfly altered so you have a break servo assistance then have lots of black smoke or have it adjusted so you have more torque and no smoke. I took mine down to a local diesel testing station and they did a cracking job saved me what i thought would be a new pump. just the timing slightly out!
