I read this in the 'Daily Telegraph' at work on Saturday, but lost the clipping I'd kept (until now)
It was in the Motoring supplement

I'll simply write out the text, as it's self-explainatory, & possibly very useful for someone

Many readers might not be aware that there are lots of unresolved recalls on grey-market Japanese imports.
It's a big issue in New Zealand, because vehicles have suffered brake failures, amongst other things.
Anyway, we were so fed up with the lack of data that we paid translators to convert the entire Japanese Transport Department database into English.
As far as I am aware this is the only English-language translation of this data on the planet.
Access is free.
Please note that VIN numbers on Japanese recalls are often different to those in England, so accessing our data-base is the only way of knowing if a secondhand Japanese import was subject to a recall at home.

That could be really useful if I'm reading it right;

Presumably once a car is exported you no longer get the letters or see the press about a recall, so people with imported cars could have lots of faulty bits that they don't know about.

That would be worth reading if I had an import as I remember SWMBOS vauxhall had a recall for the seatbelts - not something you would want to go wrong!

Exactly, NZ was (or is) a big market for Japanese cars, as their MOT equivilant is prohibitively expensive/very strict, the cars are exported.

Yes, for any one with a Pajero, Delicia, Honda Crossroads  :roll:,  etc......... it could be handy.
