Jim-Willy:
Hi, this is a question for all the techie furtilers.  For the past week or so my internet connection on my laptop keeps cutting out and running really slowly, i changed the lead and no different yet the desktop comp seems fine.  Have i got a wierd virus or spyware do you think or is it likely to be a hardware problem??  Norman virus can't find owt.

Needs a bit more info really, Dial up or Braodband?

I would guess dial up? did you just change leads or swop them between the two computers? Modem leads fail so often it's a joke.

I would look at the modem or connection rather than a virus. Is your home PC on an external Modem? If so give that a try on the laptop and see what happens.

Hi i'm on dial up.  I swapped the leads between machines, i have not got a external modem.  Guess i'll need to get it repaired then  :(

it maybe that ur internet provider is having a problem at there end.
i was without the internet for a week because of a problem with NTL.

Try running Adaware (from http://www.lavasoft.de/ )
AVG antivirus package is excellent (from http://www.grisoft.com/doc/1 ) catches most things.

There are viruses that will not only slow your connection down and / or break the connection

Both offer free versions
