putting a snorkel on my series 3
Miniman:
You mad. Mine only cost £9.92.... ok its a bit of a faf changing it over when I go in the water but that is the only time it is needed. Just need to get some wellies now eh. Worked well last weekend my snorkel...LOL
Next time may be I should take a drivers snorkel.....ha ha
Dr Neil:
i made a snorkel for my series 3 and it cost about £30 and that included a mushroom top from Paddocks so it looked half proffesional. the rest was a length of black drain pipe and a piece of flexible pipe onto an air filter casing of a Peugeot 306(that i just happend to have).

--- Quote from: "jimthelandyman" ---if i buy a snorkel though will it have some kind of filter in it? Don't want any dust or mud getting sucked in when i am playing off road.

Anything surely can't be worse than the original filter? you are after all only sticking a tube on the end of it?
Tip: if your going to bodge it yourself try and sela any flexible pipes with Vaseline or similar (grease may perish them) to rpevent water seeping in.
Honestly though - if the water ever gets that high your going to need a diving suit. I personally think most offroaders are like boy racers - doing it for the looks.

Miniman:
Anybody who is going to play in water should have a Snorkel as the manual fan throws the water all over the engine and the filter box. All you need is water up to the bumper and the fan is in it. It is not worth trying it as if you get water in the filter you are not driving it home that day and may be not for a while. It is not a fact of its for looks. It is there for a reason. No a snorkel does not just fasten onto the old filter it is not possible on a series. You need a separate filter box which is water tight.
If you are thinking about going into water any deeper than your bumper then fit a snorkel as if you dont it will be alot more expensive than a snorkel. Not worth chancing.

The only thing is that i have heard that diesels can start palying up if you put different air filters on such as a KandN filter the snorkel should not give me any problems will it?
