There is the possibility that I could be part-'xing my Discovery for a Defender.
(dependant now!! on the windows)


For aesthetic & 'egotistical' reasons I would probably like to keep my number plate.
What! Me, with an ego!! Don't think so (I'm serious, I haven't)


So the question is;
I know you can't put a (for example) 'S' plate on a 1988 vehicle, as you can't register it as newer than the build date.
You can put a 1988 plate on a 1998 vehicle though.

So
Does the ruling apply to the exact registration date, or simply the identification 'prefix?

Can I put my plate (vehicle first registered 26.8.98, so it's a 'S' prefix)
onto a vehicle registered perhaps on the  1.8.98???

I might find one that was registered & driven out on the first day, it'd be a pity to loose the plate, even though it's irrevocably linked to a 50th

So long as you do not make the vehicle appear newer than it is, you keep the spacing correct etc. Then you can move the plate. a 97 S and a 98 S are both S reg, so you can put an S registration on a 97 or newer car. It doesn't matter when the plate was released or what car it was on previously.

That's what I thought to myself, but had to ask

The spacing, & font, are 100% legal.

If you are moving the same number plate from Discovery to Defender then the plate will be no more/less illegal than it was before.

If you are having a new one made - then there are rules, and 'all' plate suppliers are supposed to make plates within guidelines and put there name on them incase it is found to be illegal later.

But we all know people who will still make the plates the way we want them (legal or not).

Do you know what the official rules are?, or maye I should have said 'Do you care what......'
