Help with 5 or 3 Bearing Crank

<< < (2/2)

ian_s:
well, i have a 3 bearing diesel, and the oil filler is a tube into the side of the block.
if someone has a five bearing diesel, they should be able to tell you if its different

cstokes:
The five bearing diesel may have the oil filler on the side of the block or may not.  On the three main bearing diesel the colour of the block is like a duck egg blue, where as on the five main bearing diesel the block will either be black or red.  But look at the block and not the timing cover because the timing cover on the five bearing may be blue and the block will be red.  Also on the five main bearing engine there is a little extra webbing on the lower part of the crank case on the passenger side, where as the three main bearing engines tend to be smooth.  Hope this helps.

The other way of course is to take the sump off and have a look.
