vibration at 50 mph plus help if you please
chuggaman:
having vibration problems at 50 mph plus
but the strange thing is that it only appears when you let off the throttle
then you can hear as well as feel the metallic vibration noise
i have a wide angle front prop with extended shaft
the shaft is 73mm and since putting on the radius arms for castor correction the shaft has come out by 51 mm
the ujs are fine and are new
when i give the prop a good wiggle there is no play
but there is play in the front of the transfer box where the prop connects
i know that i need to be putting on a double cardon
anyone know where to start with a 200 tdi
confused mike
muddysteve:
mine does exactly the same at about 35
and according to my local independent its the front output bearing thats causing it. it goes in on tuesday for it to be replaced
i'll let you know if it cures it

chuggaman:
does the transfer box have to come out to do that???
Range Rover Blues:
If you've lifted and castor corrected you need a Cardan jointed shaft, the pulsing caused by the top uj will find all the play in your transmission, wherever it is. It happens on coasting or overun because the torque of driving keeps thing tightened up, it's the backlash you are feeling and there's always going to be some. Also the front prop stretches with the QT arms because they are longer to account for the arc of the arm as it swings down, they reinstate the wheelbase.
That play in the transfer box will eventually become a leak.
Budgie:
Had the same thing on mine when I fitted the caster correction radius arms, although I could feel it right through the speed range. Fitted the Carden prop and no more vibration. :D
One thing though, there should be a small amount of play on the transfer box front output flange, I've just fitted a 1.41 ratio box from Ashcrofts and that has the same amout of play in it as the one I took out!!
Mind you, the pulsing from the front prop will not be helping the bearing and it will damage it in the end.
If you don't have the money/time to get a Carden prop yet then you may be better off putting the standard radius arms back on for now. :?
