What type of oil for an off roader??

landyman Ash:
All good points.

Ive always been a bit horrid to my V8's but the TDi is £1000 worth of engine (didnt pay that but you know what i mean) compared to my V8's that cost £25 to £50.

I did buy my last oil in 20litre drum so think I'll do the same this time and get some decent stuff for it.

Might break down less

TimM:
The turbo in your new engine has a 'floating bearing' - the turbo spins at a rediculous speed (can't remember how fast) and ordinary bearings are not upto the job. A floating bearing is basically presurised oil that is pumped in to keep the two moving surfaces apart. If you use cheap oil or do not change it then the oil pipe to the turbo risks getting blocked, no oil to the turbo means no bearing - which will very soon mean no turbo.

For 'no turbo' read ££££££££££££ and a tow-truck home.

Decent oil say £20, new turbo £500?

I'm not sure about the prices but the principal is there.

landyman Ash:
Expensive oil it is!!!!!

Dont fancy changing turbos for sure!!!!

Cheers for that

duckhams 20/50 or other decent brand in the engine, put some cheapo 20/50 in the gearbox.

Ep90 for transfer box/overdrive , i use whatever cos the overdrive leaks so its topped up pretty often.
